Last year in the United Kingdom, Queen Elizabeth II ordered what was to be the largest reform of the country’s penal system since the Victorian era.
The level of violence, the numbers of deaths and suicides, incidents of self-harm and drug taking among English and Welsh prisoners had reached crisis levels.
But that was before the Brexit referendum, and all talk of reforming the country’s prisons has since been shelved.
Meanwhile, in the country’s overcrowded prisons, newly published statistics show conditions are worsening.
