At the Cité Internationale, a large campus for international students in Paris, the American Foundation has kicked off Thanksgiving week in France. The students' committee organised a traditional and homely dinner, complete with stuffed turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce and pecan pie. For the American students, this was a time to get together and offer thanks during celebrations that run for four days. For the international students, it was a rare opportunity to participate first hand in an age-old US tradition. RFI attended the event, and spoke to some people about what Thanksgiving means in the US, and how this very American holiday is perceived in France.
