At the Minsk summit 12 months ago French President Hollande, Russian President Putin and Ukrainian President Poroshenko with German Chancellor Merkel agreed to a packaged peace deal that was meant to ease the conflict in eastern Ukraine. A year later the Minsk II agreement has both sides finding themselves in a stalemate with none of the points fully implemented and with each side finding little common ground. With the pro-Russian separatists regions facing a Ukrainian economic blockade and ceasefire violations noted on regular basis, little has changed through diplomatic initiatives.
