In an unprecedented move, Istanbul will re-run a mayoral election this Sunday, June 23.
At the end of March, President Recep Tayip Erdogan's AKP party was defeated in the city's local elections, ending its 25 year control of Istanbul.
That result was widely seen as a political game changer, but a re-run was called after authorities annulled the vote.
Dorian Jones reports from Istanbul on the election is now more than just about who runs the city.
