Will UK lift Lamu travel ban?

The British government has said it is working on plans to lift a travel advisory it issued against Lamu County, in the northern part of the Kenyan coast. The UK announced the travel warning after Al-Shebab islamist militants from neighboring Somalia attacked villages in Lamu in June and July 2014, killing at least 100 people including security officers. The initial advisory had warned British citizens from non-essential travel to the entire coastal strip of Kenya including the port city of Mombasa, but was later reviewed and lifted on all the areas except Lamu. Local leaders and residents in Lamu continue to condemn the advisory, saying it has killed the area's economy, which is mostly dependent on tourism.
